NEW YORK – June 18, 2021 – The Toronto Star published an extensive article on the landmark case filed by Brown Rudnick Partner and Litigation & Arbitration Chair Michael Bowe and Partner and Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group Leader Lauren Tabaksblat entitled “‘It’s evil’: An inside look at the disturbing allegations against Montreal-based Pornhub, accused of trafficking humans and exploiting children in new lawsuit.”

The lawsuit was filed against MindGeek, the parent company of Pornhub, various of its affiliates, owners, and officers, as well as Visa, on behalf of over 30 victims of child pornography, rape, and human trafficking.

Bowe is quoted in The Star saying, “It's evil. Part of the reason this is allowed to happen is most people don't think of people doing this. But what gives you chills is how many people, given the opportunity to do something like this, do it."

The article points out the contrasting claims from MindGeek executives, who previously testified to members of Canada’s Parliament that they “went above and beyond to combat illegal content on its platforms.” In February 2021, Bowe was invited to testify twice before Canada’s House of Commons Ethics Committee, part of a Canadian government inquiry into MindGeek. Bowe testified that MindGeek and its tubesites like Pornhub made a “knowing decision to commercialize” the content and that this is “part of the business model.” “The fact of the matter is that this company is the largest depository of child pornography in North America, which we all know is flat out a crime.”

The article continues, shining light on numerous stories from victims who detail the endless trauma they’ve endured as a result of these exploitative videos being released to the public. Finally, it discusses reporting inconsistencies from MindGeek and Pornhub related to child abuse imagery, potential child pornography, and other suspicious posts over the past ten years.

Bowe is an experienced trial lawyer who for thirty years has successfully litigated virtually every type of high-stakes business and personal case, on both the plaintiff and defense side, and at both the trial and appellate level.

In conjunction with the filing, Bowe was interviewed by CBS This Morning discussing the case. You can watch the story and read the article here.
