Brown Rudnick Advises on Structuring Litigation Funding in Privacy Claim Against TikTok
PUBLISHED ON: 04/26/2021
International law firm Brown Rudnick has advised on a multimillion-dollar litigation funding of a legal claim against social media giant TikTok and its parent company ByteDance. A former Children’s Commissioner for England accuses TikTok and ByteDance of illegally collecting millions of children’s private information in the UK and Europe and sharing it with unknown third parties for profit. Brown Rudnick has advised on structuring the funding in this high-profile matter, which is one of the milestone opt-out class actions in Europe. TikTok has over 800 million active users and was the most downloaded app globally in 2020.
Elena Rey, a Partner in Brown Rudnick’s Litigation Funding and Special Situations Groups, commented, “This is a complex litigation impacting the most vulnerable in our society. Our part in the case involved advising on the finance aspects of this innovative litigation funding. We take pride in being a part of this important case.”
