Amanda Buck Varella is a partner in the Firm's Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group. She counsels employers relative to hiring, terminations, employee handbooks, discrimination claims, and other employee relations matters. In addition to her experience in the federal and state courts, Amanda represents clients before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Amanda serves as the Firm’s in-house employment counsel.

Amanda also has over 20 years of experience representing companies in litigation matters. She has extensive experience in real estate litigation involving lease disputes, land use, telecommunications, and property tax appeals, including representing several wireless telecommunications companies in dozens of cases in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York. Amanda has significant experience at the appellate level, including the Supreme Judicial Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.


Successfully defended numerous employers before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Employment Commission.

Obtained defense verdict on $65 million lease dispute after two-week long jury trial.

Obtained a preliminary injunction for retailer enjoining further construction in shopping center, resulting in removal of offending structure.

Successfully defended the State of Rhode Island in a $750 million bid protest involving its heath care administration contract.

Prevailed on summary judgment for client, resulting in first favorable decision for a wireless telecommunications provider in Maine under Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Prevailed on summary judgment for landowner in environmental liability matter.
