London, Wednesday, 7 October 2020 - Brown Rudnick LLP is delighted to announce that Christian Toms has been appointed a Recorder (Deputy Circuit Judge) by HM The Queen on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor, The Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP, and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The appointment will take effect from 12th October 2020.

Christian has been assigned to sit on the Wales Circuit and will be dealing with Civil matters.

The appointment is a further accomplishment for the highly regarded partner who was most recently recognised by The Legal 500 UK (2021) as a Recommended Lawyer for Fraud: Civil; Banking Litigation: Investment and Retail; and Commercial Litigation: Premium. He has been described as "exceptionally talented" and a "highly focused, technically excellent partner with broad shoulders and an eye on the result at all times."

Christian’s practice encompasses a range of matters, in particular those arising from complex financial arrangements and investments, director/shareholder and joint venture disputes, and fraud.  Case highlights include the successful strike out of High Court proceedings for dishonest assistance (Goldtrail Travel v Grumbridge [2020] EWHC 1757 (Ch)), a High Court challenge to a Letter of Request in U.S. proceedings concerning Kazakhstan’s BTA Bank (Atlantica Holdings, Inc & Anor v Sovereign Wealth Fund & Ors [2019] EWHC 319 (QB)), and acting for a Dutch pension fund against Goldman Sachs Asset Management International (Stichting Bedrijfstakpensioenfonds Voor Het Beroepesvervoer Over de Weg & Ors. v Goldman Sachs Asset Management International Limited).

In addition to fee earning work, Christian is a Director of Brown Rudnick's Charitable Foundation.
