Biography

Claudia Saffar advises clients in a variety of general corporate matters, concentrating her practice on the secondary loan trading markets and providing advice on the legal issues relating to the purchase and sale of distressed debt and claims trading.

Claudia has extensive experience in the preparation and negotiation of primary and secondary LSTA and LMA trading documentation and the review and analysis of credit documentation.  In such context, Claudia has focused on the purchase and sale of distressed assets in emerging and established markets in the UK, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Sweden and Iceland.

Most recently, Claudia has been representing clients in connection with the trading of claims and loans of Landsbanki Islands hf., Kaupthing Bank hf., Tribune Company, Glitnir Bank hf., Exista hf., Mediannuaire Holding, Pages Jaunes Group SA, Thomson SA / Technicolor, ProSieben, Perstorp Holding AB and Cattles plc.

In December 2009, Claudia advised a group led by Carl C. Icahn in the initial purchase of the secured loans granted to Trump Entertainment Resorts from Beal Bank, resulting in Mr. Icahn’s involvement in the reorganization plan for the casino operator.

In June 2010, Claudia advised PSW NYC, a special purpose joint venture between Pershing Square Capital Management and Winthrop Realty Trust, in connection with the purchase of a $300 million senior mezzanine position in Stuyvesant Town / Peter Cooper Village property.

Claudia has international experience, having worked at Clifford Chance in London and as a French “avocat” at Jeantet + Associes in Paris.  It is at Jeantet + Associes in 1996 that she became involved in the drafting and negotiating of contracts for the purchase and sale of distressed debt relating to the Euro Disney and Eurotunnel credit facilities.  She then joined Mandel, Katz, Manna & Brosnan in New York in 2002, where she represented major investment banks in distressed debt and par/near par transactions.

Claudia is fluent in French.
