Amanda Varella represents publicly and privately held companies in litigation matters.  She has extensive experience in real estate litigation involving lease disputes, land use, telecommunications, and property tax appeals, including representing several wireless telecommunications companies in dozens of cases in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York.  Amanda also counsels employers relative to hiring, terminations, employee handbooks, discrimination claims, and other matters.  In addition to her experience in the federal and state courts, Amanda has represented clients before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board, the Massachusetts Department of Workforce Development, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Amanda also has significant experience at the appellate level, including the Supreme Judicial Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.


Obtained defense verdict on $65 million lease dispute after two week long jury trial.

Obtained a preliminary injunction for retailer enjoining further construction in shopping center, resulting in removal of offending structure.

Successfully defended the State of Rhode Island in a $750 million bid protest involving its heath care administration contract.

Prevailed on summary judgment for client, resulting in first favorable decision for a wireless telecommunications provider in Maine under Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Prevailed before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination in defending several discrimination claims against employers.

Obtained substantial judgment for lending institution in breach of contract case.

Prevailed on summary judgment for landowner in environmental liability matter.
