Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Grant Helps Establish Food Pantry for Washington, D.C. Middle School

Boston, MA, May 3, 2017 The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to Steven E. Kramer Middle School in Washington, D.C. to help establish a food pantry for students and their families. The grant will help purchase a variety of canned foods, cereals, condiments and snacks.

The Kramer Food Pantry will be led by community volunteers, the school parent coordinator, parents, Kramer teachers and staff. Additionally, Turning the Page, an educational non-profit that focuses on engaging Washington D.C. public school families as partners in their children’s education, will provide children’s books for each Kramer student when they use the food pantry. Talia Crosby, Partnership Manager at Turning the Page and grant applicant, said, “We believe the food pantry will meet a great need within the school community. Our goal is to provide each family with over 25 pounds of food and the pantry will operate every first and third Wednesday of the month. We are grateful for the Foundation’s support.”

Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “Research shows that students who receive at least three nutritious meals each day have better school attendance, improved behavior and concentration, and better academic performance than those who do not. We are happy to help establish a food pantry for Kramer Middle School to help benefit students and their families.”

Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington D.C. within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at
