Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Grant Brings Children Discovering Justice Program to 2nd Graders in Boston
Boston, MA, March 7, 2017 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to The James D. St. Clair Court Publication Education Project, Discovering Justice in Boston, Mass. The grant will help implement the second edition Children Discovering Justice literacy and social studies curriculum for the entire second grade at the Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School in Roxbury. Specifically, the Foundation grant will be used to purchase classroom books, curriculum guides, and fund professional development for teachers and courthouse mock trial field trips for 84 second graders and their four teachers.
Danielle White, Discovering Justice Education Programs Manager and grant applicant, said, “At under-resourced schools like Orchard Gardens, it is Discovering Justice’s responsibility to provide access to our high-quality programs. With the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation’s help, we will be able to do just that.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “We are pleased to support this initiative, which aims to help young children learn to advocacy skills and discover their own potential.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
