Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Grant Helps At-Risk Boston Youth Get Off the Streets and Get to Work

Boston, MA, August 3, 2016 The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, awarded a Community Grant to Roca, an outcomes-driven organization serving nearly 750 high-risk, justice-system involved young men annually in the Greater Boston area. The grant will help Roca upgrade its alternative educational program in Boston and will help purchase books and other educational materials to be used for HiSET test preparation, group instruction and one-on-one tutoring, and as a lending library for homework assignments or recreational reading.

Kristen Cahillane, Roca’s High-Risk Youth Educator and grant applicant, said, “I work intensively to support and motivate highrisk males, age 1724, to re-engage in education and enter the workforce. Having these educational materials will help us implement GED/HiSET and other educational programming to help students succeed.”

Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “Roca’s mission is to help young men and women get off the streets, stay out of jail, find good jobs, and create a better future for themselves. Education is the key to achieving these goals, and we are pleased to support this worthy program.”

Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at
