Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Grant Supports Autism Strand at Samuel Adams Elementary School in East Boston
Boston, MA, March 23, 2016 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, awarded a Community Grant to Samuel Adams Elementary School in East Boston for the purchase of a variety of sensory materials for students with autism. These materials will be used in highly specialized classrooms in the school’s autism strand to help comfort and guide students with autism into an appropriate learning posture.
Michelle Lamacchia, Autism Strand Specialist at Samuel Adams Elementary, and grant applicant, said, “Some of our students with autism would greatly benefit from sensory materials to regulate their bodies, but these supplies are typically beyond a teacher’s budget. With the Foundation grant, we can provide individualized materials to students that will prepare them for learning success.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “We are pleased to provide sensory materials to Samuel Adams Elementary, so the teachers can create a productive learning environment for students with autism.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
