Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Grant Helps Reduce Summer Learning Loss at Trinity Academy in Hartford, CT
Boston, MA, August 11, 2016 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to Trinity Academy. The grant will support a two-week summer experience at the school designed to help stem summer learning loss and provide students with enhanced cultural, environmental and educational opportunities.
Karen Connal, Trinity Academy’s Head of School and grant applicant, said, “Trinity Academy is an independent, tuition-free elementary school that provides a safe and nurturing environment for students from low-income families in the Hartford area. Our goal with the summer program is to reduce the effects of the summer slide for our students through fun reading, math and physical education activities.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “Summer learning loss is a problem for many students, but may be especially dire for low-income students. Some studies show that low-income youths lose more than two months in reading achievement over summer vacation. Programs such as Trinity Academy’s Summer Experience are important to address education setbacks for these at-risk students.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
